Lino Brocka film festival to open on Aug. 29
Brocka fans, get ready for a new showing of the acclaimed director's classic films with the sixth Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival on Aug. 29 at the University of the Philippines Film Institute, Cine Adarna.
Starting at 9 a.m. before the screening of new political films will be a forum titled “The Relevance of the ‘National Artist Award’ in Filipino Culture and the Arts,” in answer to Nora Aunor's not being conferred the honor earlier this year.
Following a lunch break, the screenings will commence at 1 p.m. At 6 p.m., Christian Blackwood's bibliographical documentary “Signed: Lino Brocka,” will premiere. Onwards of 7:30 p.m. will be the awarding of certificates to filmmakers and workshop facilitators, as well as trophies for the creators of exemplary works.
The film festival has been organized by non-profit group Tudla Productions since 2009.
According to the festival's press release, it "believes that cinema and new media in the 21st century are powerful tools capable of raising social awareness regarding the plight of the masses, similar to what powered Brocka’s films. The political film production created by the festivals are a continuing legacy of Brocka’s desire to develop what he calls 'the Great Filipino Audience,' which for him is more important than creating 'the Great Filipino Movie.'" — Vida Cruz/BM, GMA News
