Dulaang UP is offering all theater lovers and history buffs a chance to rediscover one of the country’s greatest heroes through a musical "Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini."
Directed by Dexter M. Santos, with the book and libretto by Floy Quintos and music by Krina Cayabyab, the play explores the mind of the often underappreciated Revolutionary hero.
“Mabini isn’t one of the most top-of-mind Philippine heroes of the Revolution. He has no great battles, no dramatic acts,” Quintos explains. “The play captures a very specific period of Mabini's life, his exile in Guam in 1901 and his eventual return to the Philippines in 1903. It's a period that not much has been written about.”

Quintos sees this as a great opportunity to re-imagine what could have transpired during that period. The one-act play lets the audience experience the bitterness left behind by the failed Revolution and the longing to return home to one’s country through its seven songs, which will be sung live.
The musical is perhaps the most notable tribute for the celebration of the sesquicentennial of Apolinario Mabini.
On top of highlighting the hero's nationalism, "Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini" also emphasizes the importance of his greatest work: "The True Decalogue." Spreading awareness of this forgotten work is one of the goals of the production.

“It is something that the play really stresses on, The True Decalogue...it is a code of personhood which we need now—especially now,” Quinto says.
