Attending Pope Francis’ activities in PHL? Learn papal Mass songs
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, as well as Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, have often reminded those who are planning to attend the upcoming papal Masses to participate actively in the Eucharistic Celebration. To do so, one is required to learn the songs expected to be played during the papal visit, especially during the concluding Mass at Quirino Grandstand.
The songs are multilingual, as previously reported. They are written in Latin, English, Tagalog, Cebuano, and other Philippine languages and dialects, and composed mostly by Fr. Manoling V. Francisco SJ.
"Musically, this multilingual Mass-setting fuses both Western music and Filipino indigenous rhythms, such as the Kalinga rhythm from the north and the Singkil rhythm from the south, and Filipino melodic and chord patterns, such as the Kundiman of Central Luzon," said Fr. Genaro Diwa, the liturgical affairs head of the Archdiocese of Manila and in-charge of liturgical preparations for the closing Mass of the papal visit on Sunday.
These songs have also been sung at parishes, as requested by the papal visit organizers.
YouTube channel "2015 Philippine Papal Visit Mass Songs" uploaded some audios of the hymns for the Catholic faithful's convenience.
These are "Kordero Ng Diyos," "Iesu, Panis Vitae," "Laudate Dominum," "Kyrie Eleison," "Glory to God," and "Alay Sa Diyos" as performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
CBCP also uploaded PDF files of the songs.
A 1,000-voice choir from Manila, Cubao, Pasig, Novaliches, Caloocan, Antipolo, San Pablo, Parañaque, Malolos, and Batangas and a 100-member orchestra from the Conservatory of Music of the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas and other Catholic schools will lead the singing of the Mass songs at Luneta.
The song "We Are All God’s Children" will be sung after the communion, and the 1995 World Youth Day song "Tell the World of His Love" will be the final song. — VC, GMA News
