Cinemalaya reveals short film finalists for 2015


The Cinemalaya Foundation has revealed the finalists for the Short Film category for the 2015 Cinemalaya Film Festival and Competition on August 7-15 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and other festival venues.
 
The ten finalists in the Short Film category are the following:

  • "Apasol" by Ryan Joseph Murcia
  • "Gatilyo ng Baril" by Glenmark Doromal
  • "Kyel" by Arvin Belarmino
  • "Lisyun Qng Geografia" by Petersen Vargas
  • "Mater" by Annemikami Pablo
  • "Nenok" by Rommel Tolentino
  • "Papetir" by Darwin Novicio
  • "Pusong Bato" by Martika Ramirez Escobar
  • "Sanctissima" by Kenneth Dagatan
  • "Wawa" by Angelie Mae Macalanda
 
These short films were selected from a total of 150 entries submitted.
 
According to the Cinemalaya Foundation, the competition will be held only in the short film category. The winner of the Short Film category will receive P150,000 cash prize.

The film festival will also feature Philippine premieres of recently produced independent films and selected acclaimed Asian films. The Asian section will be curated by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema, which will be celebrating its 25th year during the Cinemalaya Festival.  

A retrospective of Cinemalaya films and outstanding works produced in the past decade will also be shown during the festival.
 
Meanwhile, the foundation assured that the full-length feature category will be back in 2016, but with no subcategories New Breed and Directors' Showcase.

Finalists for the full-length feature category will be announced during the Awards Night on August 15 this year. They will receive a production grant of P750,000, which is 50 percent bigger than the previous grants. The Best Film will get a cash prize of P250,000.

Cinemalaya Film Institute

The Cinemalaya Foundation is also busy preparing for the opening of the Cinemalaya Film Institute in June at the New Media, School of Arts & Design of the College of St. Benilde.

It is set to offer a three-semester program of intensive training in writing, directing and producing, cinematography, editing, sound and production design, as well as music score and acting. The institute will be led by director Carlos Siguion-Reyna. — Trisha Macas/BM, GMA News
