Fashion for the ‘brrr!’ months

Even in a tropical country like the Philippines, the weather turns cooler once the "ber" months roll around. So check out the newest looks from international brands' fall/winter collections, launched in Metro Manila earlier this month.

ZARA

ZARA’s Fall/Winter collection takes the diversity of different genres and unifies them in one sartorial collection. There is an abundance of wool, silk, lace and jacquard fabrics, bohemian fringes and metallic knitwear in a palette of pitch-black, burnt orange, navy blue and creams. The '70s inspiration is seen in flared denims, bell-bottom jeans, fringes hems and soft suede.

Wearing 'fall/winter' wear in the Philippines

You might think wearing these clothes would beimpossible here, with the absence of both fall and winter in our country. Not quite. This author has a few suggestions on colder-weather wardrobe for Pinoys:

  • Unless you are traveling abroad, stay clear of tweed, wool and other heavy fabrics.
  • Denim in all its form is always welcome. Seventies-inspired jeans and bell bottoms are among the trends to pick this season.
  • Layer with care. Fall and winter is all about layering, but with our tropical weather, even in the "-ber" months, layering might be suffocating. Pick light fabrics to go together and limit the layers to maybe two.
  • Shoes, belts, bags and accessories are the easiest way to follow this trend and all the featured brands carry items that complement their looks.
