Lesley Mobo to showcase ‘Tudor Romance’ designs at Red Charity Gala

Acclaimed London-based Filipino fashion designer Lesley Mobo is set to defy expectations at the annual Red Charity Gala on October 16 at the Makati Shangri-La.

The Red Charity Gala runway this year will see "an orgy of 'Tudor Romance' towards the culmination of the 'War of the Roses' and Dynasty kitchy glamor via Studio 54," Mobo explained.

The fashion designer, who spent his early years in Aklan before moving to England, has been known for his mastery of designing and tailoring soft, feminine dresses with an edgy, structural touch. His trademark looks combine vintage styles and new materials that sometimes also reflect a fun, street vibe.

"The identity is always a combination of timeless classic silhouette with a bit of a twist and humor. It has a modern attitude towards power dressing," Mobo said in a statement.

Mobo graduated from London art and design college Central St. Martin's in 2002 with a First Class BA Honors Degree in Fashion.

His designs were featured in the "Fashion in Motion" exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, with his masterpieces featured by the BBC in 2002.

He also started wholesaling his MOBO women's wear line in Paris during Paris Fashion Week in 2009, which these designs featured in Italian Vogue.

In 2013 - 2015, he designed the top selling T-shirt line "MOBO Lesley Mobo" (Women, Men, Girls, Kids and Babies) for Japanese brand Uniqlo.

Red Charity Gala

Organized by society icon Tessa Prieto-Valdes and philanthropist Kaye Tinga, the Red Charity Gala  raises funds for the Philippine Red Cross and the Assumption High School Batch 1981 Foundation.

A league of world-renowned Filipino designers have been featured in the Gala, among them Rajo Laurel, Dennis Lustico, Furne One, Michael Cinco, Cary Santiago, Ezra Santos, and Jojie Lloren.

"It is amazing how this vision that came to fruition several years ago is still burning with flames. We are very happy to partner with creative and world-class talents, feature their works, and give back to the community all at the same time," said Valdes.
