President Benigno Aquino III will be leading the nationwide commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal's death anniversary for the last time on December 30 at Rizal Park.

Aside from the official flag-raising and the wreath-laying rites that the President will attend, the Order of the Knights of Rizal will also conduct the traditional re-enactment of Rizal's walk from Fort Santiago in memory of the National Hero's martyrdom.

Also immediately following the wreath-laying ceremony, there will be a fly-by composed of: 10 Cessna Trainer T41s, 15 Stelio Frati (SF)260FHs, 3 combat utility helicopters, 5 Augusta Westland (AW) 109 helicopters of the Philippine Air Force and 3 AW 109 helicopters of the Philippine Navy.

The public can participate in less formal activities prepared by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in the spirit of the theme, "Rizal 2015: Dangal ng Pilipino, Gabay sa Pagbabago."

The National Hero as a poet gets some love with the lecture "Ang Pagtula(y) ni Juan sa Panahon" (10 a.m.) and the slam poetry session "#Hugot Rizal" (2 p.m.) at Museo ni Rizal in Fort Santiago, Intramuros.

And not forgetting that Rizal was also a doctor, the Department of Health and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office together with the City of Manila will be giving free medical and optical services at Binhi ng Kalayaan in Rizal Park from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Meanwhile, commuters can avail of free MRT/LRT rides from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and they can take the afternoon train to get to Rizal Park for a grand fireworks display at 7 p.m. in the Tamaraw Area. While waiting, people could visit the Noli Me Tangere garden and listen to the Malabon Community Band perform a "Harana Para Kay Jose Rizal", which starts at 6 p.m.
