Devotees in Plaza del Carmen await the Black Nazarene for the Dungaw

Plaza del Carmen was a sea of red and yellow as devotees crowded in front of the San Sebastian Church in Quiapo to wait for the Black Nazarene on Saturday.

The procession, which began in the Quirino Grandstand, will pass by the area for the "Dungaw," during which the image of The Virgin of Mt. Carmel will be carried to meet with the Black Nazarene statue.

Earlier in the day, a mini-procession was held for the image of the Virgin.

The Dungaw is on its third year of practice. However, the priests in San Sebastian believe that the custom had existed in the very beginning and that it was merely revived.

After the procession, the crowd started praying the rosary as they wait for the arrival of the Black Nazarene and its meeting with Mother Mary.
