John Arcilla, ‘Heneral Luna’ nominated in 10th Asian Film Awards

Hit historical epic "Heneral Luna" is a nominee for acting and technical awards in the 10th Asian Film Awards, with star John Arcilla getting a nod in the Best Actor category.

Arcilla is nominated alongside Donnie Yen ("Ip Man 3," Hong Kong), Nagase Masatoshi ("An," Japan), Feng Xiaogang ("Mr. Six," Mainland China), and Lee Byung-Hun ("Inside Man," South Korea).

This is the second time that the Philippines has been nominated in the category. Eddie Garcia took home the award for "Bwakaw" in 2013.

Filipina actresses are more represented, with Eugene Domingo nominated for her performance in "Babae sa Septic Tank" (2012) and another for Barber's Tales (2014), and Superstar Nora Aunor bagging the award in 2013 for "Thy Womb."

While "Heneral Luna" did not get the nod for Best Picture, Carlo Tabije was nominated for Best Costume Design. Tabije is also a co-nominee with Benjamin Padero for Best Production Design.

Presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Asian Film Awards was launched in 2007, giving a platform for the growing film industry in the region. Brilliante Mendoza and Lav Diaz have both been nominated for Best Director: Mendoza for "Serbis" (2009) and "Lola" (2010) and Diaz for "Mula sa Kung Ano ang Noon" (2015). — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
