The Swiss Guard, Italian military in full regalia for Pope’s Easter Mass

Five days after multiple bombings in Belgium's capital Brussels claimed the lives of at least 28 people, security was heightened in the Vatican City for the Pope's Easter Mass on Sunday.

This took the form of Italian police officers turning out en masse as the City of Rome doubled security precautions for the event, as well as the familiar forms of the Swiss Guard, the Vatican City's ceremonial troops and papal bodyguards.

Italian military forces—the walled Vatican City enclave is situated in Rome—were also on hand to provide both pomp and ceremony for the event.
