GSIS welcomes winners of its 12th art competition to the Museo ng Sining
The 12th Art Competition organized by the Government Service insurance System (GSIS) drew the largest number of entries in the contest's history, with over 800 artworks from artists across the Philippines.

"At least 250 new artists joined the competition this year, including a group of sculptors from Pampanga and 15 artists from the Bureau of Corrections, proving that art is universal, and the confine of a prison cell is no hindrance for artistic expression," GSIS President and General Manager Robert Vergara said.
Wilfredo Cañete Jr. of Minglanilla, Cebu won the representational category with his work "Fused Dimensions", followed by Roman Angelo R. Cruz of Taytay, Rizal ("History of Art: The Avant Garde — One Subject Different Approach") and Edu Perreras of Angeles, Pampanga ("Piso-Pisong Panaginip").

Samuel Penaso of Quezon City won the non-representational category with his work "Future Scene (Remix)", followed by Leo T. Ayen of Naga City ("The Art of Aurora") and Herminigildo C. Pineda of Porac, Pampanga ("Magkikita Tayong Muli").
Penaso also placed third in the sculpture category for his work "Naturescape."

John Paul Albert N. Dalisay's wood and stone "Ecce Homo" placed first and Elmer Reyes of Bulacan took second with "Fishbone (Tinik)."
"The quality of the artworks never fails to impress us every year, making the selection process ever more challenging for our esteemed judges," Vergara said.
The winning entries are now part of the GSIS art collection and all 807 entries are open to the public for viewing at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay City until July 30.
