Musicians, composers urge the public: ‘Wag maliitin ang notang Pinoy!

In preparation for the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, observed from July 23 to 31, the members of the online community FilipiNotes have gathered to share their love of local songs with the public.

The community released a video detailing the best parts of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), hoping to inspire more people to share their feelings for the genre.

Singer Dingdong Avanzado quipped, "Nothing compares to OPM when we want to express how we feel!"

"Birit! We know it's fun and we love to do it!" theater actress Kim Molina chimed in with a rhyme before sampling a beloved Aegis hit.

Juan Rhyme, Tim Pavino, Aiza Seguerra, Noah Zuñiga, Deejay Poblete, Gherns Calina, Edwin Negapatan, Dan Tristan, and Poppert added more reasons to sing more OPM songs.

Having shared 10 arguments in favor of local music, the artists drove home a point to try and win their case: "Huwag maliitin ang notang Pinoy!"

For those who feel compelled to belt out a song or two in solidarity with their message, FilipiNotes' has organized "FilipiNoyes Upsized," an OPM open mic on July 26 at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub. The event starts at 8 pm, with a door fee of P300.

Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino is observed to nurture an appreciation for homegrown music, in accordance with Proclamation No. 933, signed in 2014 by then-President Benigno Aquino III.

It mandates "all radio stations with musical format programs to broadcast a minimum of four original Pilipino musical compositions in every clock hour and defined original Pilipino music as any musical composition created by a Filipino, whether the lyrics be in Pilipino, English or in any other language or dialect." — RSJ, GMA News
