Quentin Blake, famed illustrator of Roald Dahl books, sends PHL a message

Anyone who grew up reading Roald Dahl's books will recognize Quentin Blake's distinctive illustrations: wispy scrawled figures that look like they were haphazardly drawn with a pen and then hurriedly painted in with watercolor—creating images that somehow perfectly embody Dahl's warm, clever writings and deservedly make Blake one of the most beloved and influential illustrators around.

This year marks Dahl's 100th birth anniversary (he was born on September 13, 1916, and died in 1990). In honor of the occasion, the British Embassy is holding a Roald Dahl exhibit, on view at SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City until August 14. It is part of the embassy's This is GREAT Britain campaign.

A new screen version of Roald Dahl's The BFG also hit Philippine cinemas on Wednesday.  At the local premiere, UK Ambassador Asif Ahmad urged the audience to visit the UK. “The BFG showcases some of the UK’s fantastic sites: London, Blenheim Palace and Isle of Skye. After watching the film, I invite the young and young at heart to make a promise to themselves to explore the actual film locations and relive the magic of The BFG,” he said.

According to the British Embassy in a press release, Blake also sent Ambassador Ahmad this personalized illustration for Filipino fans of Dahl's works:
