Released on the day honoring one of DC Comics’ greatest characters and one of the world's most famous pop culture heroes, this first look at the Academy Award-winning actor as Batman’s closest ally doesn’t disappoint. Gordon is fitted in his iconic hat and trenchcoat and standing on what is presumably the Gotham City Police Department rooftop with the Bat Signal on and shining brightly into the sky.
Simmons is no stranger to comic book roles and has played another popular character in the past: hot-tempered Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson in all three Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. fame. Simmons was so great in the role that fans petitioned for him to reprise the role when Marc Webb rebooted the franchise with “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its sequel “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Now that Marvel has made a deal with Sony and put the webslinger into their expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no longer a window for Simmons to return as he has now moved over to the competition and is playing another very well-known comic book character.
