First look at Penguin Classics’ cover for Nick Joaquin omnibus

Penguin Classics has released an exclusive first look at the cover of "The Woman Who Had Two Navels and Tales of the Tropical Gothic", a collection of Nick Joaquin's stories that is set to hit bookstore shelves in 2017.

The book brings together some of Joaquin's most acclaimed works: the novel "The Woman Who Had Two Navels," stories from the anthology "Tropical Gothic," and his play "A Portrait of the Artist as a Filipino."

This edition also includes a foreword by novelist Gina Apostol and an introduction by historian Vicente L. Rafael.

It will be the first US publication of the works of the great Filipino storyteller. The release will coincide with the notable writer's 100th birth anniversary.

The art on the cover is done by California-based Filipino artist Kristina Collantes, depicting a pivotal scene in the short story "May Day Eve."

Collantes has previously done work for The New Yorker, The New York Times, GQ Magazine, WIRED magazine, and for bands including The Flaming Lips, The Killers, OK Go and Green Day.
