Philippine ancestral homes featured in adult coloring book

Heritage conservation collective Grupo Kalinangan Inc is sharing their love for architecture and history in new adult coloring book "KULAY PAMANA: Philippine Ancestral Houses."

The book contains 24 illustrations of ancestral houses from different parts of the Philippines and each illustration contains the name, location, and architectural history of the featured house.

"There were hundreds, if not thousands, of old and beautiful ancestral houses that were suggested by our volunteers who have went around the country for the last ten years," Grupo Kalinangan Inc. president Joel Aldor told GMA News Online in an email.

He added, "How we wish we could create illustrations for all of them, but in the end we chose only 24 houses that exemplify a particular architectural style and period in history. We leaned more on featuring the lesser known but equally significant and beautiful houses. We also tried to make sure every region in the country is represented in the book, too."

The illustrations were created by the group's heritage mapping volunteers, who were more than happy to work on a coloring book about Philippine architecture.

"We’ve always wanted to come up with a coloring book that features our country’s natural and cultural heritage. There’s no coloring book out in the market today that specifically focuses on Filipino architecture; hence we found the opportunity to create one," Aldor said.

He further explained that the book serves as a guide book for heritage enthusiasts to know more about the history and architectural styles of the Filipino “bahay” around the country.

"Our purpose for coming up with this book is to provide a product that helps educate more Filipinos in understanding and appreciating our cultural heritage, while making the learning more fun and worthwhile just the same,"  he added.

"KULAY PAMANA: Philippine Ancestral Houses" is the first in a series to be realesed by Grupo Kalinangan Inc and in the coming months, Aldor said that they plan on launching another book on another type of Philippine architecture. — BM, GMA News
