Makati City has ushered in the Christmas season with its traditional lights along streets its main thoroughfares.
The business district was transformed into a colorful wonderland as Ayala Land and Makati City officials held the annual lighting event at Ayala Triangle on Thursday.
Ayala Avenue, Paseo de Roxas, and Makati Avenue have been adorned with colorful lights decorated with stained glass.
"We took inspiration from the stained glass windows of old majestic churches," said Mitch Suarez of Ayala Land.
"We found the beauty, and all of the colors, the vibrancy of the hues, we found the beauty of that. And we felt, we'll showcase that along Ayala Avenue," she added.
The palm trees planted at the street islands have been wrapped with replicas of stained glass windows.
"That is really our intent. We want to light up the stretch of Ayala Avenue, Makati Avenue, Paseo de Roxas with such a beautiful vibrant display of colors," Suarez said.
She said that this is the city's way of giving back to its community and visitors.
"Nothing can compare to the smiles and of course the joy that we give to the people here in Makati," she said.
Lighting up the three avenues was just the beginning. On November 15, the city will launch the Festival of Lights, an immersive lights and sounds show. On November 18, the Christmas cheer will reach further south as a 56-feet outdoor Christmas tree is lit up in Circuit Makati.
Mayor Abigail Binay, Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, Ayala Land Chairman Fernando k de Ayala, and Ayala Land President Bobby Dy were among those in attendance. —JST, GMA News
