Marvel announces Inhumans TV series for 2017

Looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to expand on the small screen once more: an “Inhumans” television series is set to debut in the second half of 2017.

According to a statement posted on the company's website, “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will be based on the powerful beings created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and the first two episodes will run exclusively on IMAX theaters for two weeks beginning September 17, 2017. These will be followed by a weekly series on ABC.

Once planned to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel’s The Inhumans will find new life on TV and will be the pay-off for the seeds planted in the storyline of fellow Marvel show “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

In the espionage-powered show featuring Clark Gregg's ever-constant presence as agent Phil Coulson, the Inhumans are mutant-like beings with extraordinary powers whose origins are slowly being explored. In fact, the character of one of the leads, hacker activist Skye (Chloe Bennet) has evolved as she discovers her Inhuman powers and her real identity as Daisy Johnson.

The move to have an IMAX premiere is a first for Marvel. “This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience, and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic,” said IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond.
