Art exhibit, free concert at Bantayog ng mga Bayani on Human Rights Day
In commemoration of Human Rights Day on December 10, a day of art and music will be hosted by Active Vista and DAKILA at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani on Saturday in celebration and call to action to defend human rights.
The organizers said "Alab ng Puso: Stand up for Human Rights! Day of Art and Action" aims to encourage Filipinos to stand up each time human rights and dignity are at stake.
"This year’s global theme calls on everyone to stand up for someone’s rights at this time when humanity is under attack and human dignity is being devalued," they said in a Facebook event, urging the public to keep the flame of upholding human values alive.
"The history of human rights atrocities and continuing human rights violations in the Philippines cannot be denied. Now more than ever should the flame of commitment to human values be spread and intensified," the event said.
Fair X Exhibit will kick off the event starting by 1 p.m. followed by a talk on history, heroism, and human rights by Prof. Xiao Chua until 3 p.m.
The organizers said Fair X Exhibit will feature art works and products "that contribute to human rights protection and promotion by various groups and organizations."
Meanwhile, the free concert will proceed at 4 p.m. onwards which include artists Tanya Markova, Bayang Barrios, Noel Cabangon, and comedian Jun Sabayton.
Active Vista and DAKILA urge participants to wear black in solidarity with the protection of human rights on December 10.
"Let us stand together with the rest of the world in the call to uphold human rights at all times and in all places. Let us remain steadfast in confronting the many challenges to human rights in this country and elsewhere in the world," they said.
The event is co-organized by the Commission on Human Rights, Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation, I-Defend, and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines. — Joseph Tristan Roxas/BM, GMA News
