Designer Kaye Morales promotes LGBTQ equality with bold, chromatic collection

With distinctive designs that speak for standout identity, Kaye Morales' Spring-Summer 2017 collection "Identity" takes streetwear fashion to greater heights.

The collection, launched earlier this month at Green Sun in Makati, is inspired by the atelier’s advocacy of LGBTQ awareness and equality.

In a statement, the designer said that after spending some time in London, "I know I wanted to give birth to a new collection about celebrating love and individuality."

"London is the best city to represent this collection as it was an inspiration in coming up with the pieces. When I was there, people are very open and liberated. You will feel accepted for who you are whatever your preference is."

Wild prints, artful pieces and playful mixes were strutted down the runway by Manila's finest models. Music by The Zombettes, MC Marga Bermudez, Jose Cuervo's Kat DJ and KZ Tandingan also supplied the perfect soundtrack for Identity.

The designer draws inspiration from pop culture fashion with touches of her individualistic style. Intricate stitching, see-through fabrics, oversized pieces, dark denims, rainbows and patches are what the designer is known for.

Morales, who came out as a lesbian last year, also hopes that her work will "make an impact" on people. "I believe that with understanding comes acceptance," she said. "Somehow, we can't really achieve full acceptance because there are people who will always choose not to understand. My pieces are meant to leave a mark, to make an impact to people. My pieces are unique, these are made to question the inspiration behind the creation. And nce they ask about it, it's another opportunity for me to tell my story to inspire and to help them understand us. I think that's how I plan to contribute in awareness."

This season, Morales' creation is a celebration of one's true self. The show, according to the designer, is for all those who wanted to celebrate love and equality. — BM, GMA News
