Gaston and LeFou sing in new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ clip
Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” is shaping up to be one of the entertainment giant’s most successful projects in recent history—and it hasn’t even hit the theaters yet. With the excitement for the movie reaching fever pitch, it only makes sense for the House of Mouse to fan the flames by doling out tidbits of information for the benefit of adoring admirers.
Case in point: Luke Evans, the man who’s been tapped to play everyone’s favorite narcissist, Gaston, showed up on Good Morning America to talk about the movie. But he did more than just yak; he also brought along a short new clip from the movie, one in which Gaston and LeFou (played by Josh Gad) sing a slightly updated version of “Gaston,” one of the most memorable songs from the 1991 animated film.
The sequence starts at the 2:40 mark.
According to Evans, the song’s core melody remains the same as the original’s, but its lyrics don’t.
“We have lines that were not in the original,” Evans previously told Entertainment Weekly. “The guys did at Disney reviewed all the transcripts and recordings, they’ve been able to go back through those hours and hours of recorded footage, and listen to lyrics that were written and never used, which are actually gems. For the audience who know the song immensely well—which I think is most people—you will hear a few new lines, which are really, really special.”
More specifically, these “new” lines incorporate alternate lyrics—written by original songwriters Howard Ashman and Alan Menken—that were never used in the original.
Aside from Evans and Gad, “Beauty and the Beast” features Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Prince/Beast, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette. It is Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic of the same name. It opens in theaters on March 17. — BM, GMA News
