Love is doomed in new ‘Alien: Covenant’ trailer

Twentieth Century Fox has just released another trailer for “Alien: Covenant,” the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2012 science fiction horror flick “Prometheus.”

We’re off to colonize another planet!

Of course, you can’t have a colonization mission without lovey doves gettin’ it on, so a good number of crew members are couples, as the trailer points out. But when you’ve got murderous creatures that don’t care a whit about what your relationship status is on Facebook, the horizontal mambo will be among the least of your priorities.

The official description reads:

“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.”

“Alien: Covenant” stars Katherine Waterston as the main protagonist, Daniels, who serves as the team’s terraforming expert. We last saw her in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” where she played one of the main characters, Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein.

Michael Fassbender plays the synthetic android Walter. Walter is more advanced than David, the duplicitous android whom Fassbender also played in “Prometheus.”

At this moment, we aren’t sure what role the main protagonist of “Prometheus”—the scientist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace)—will play in the upcoming movie.

Comedian Danny McBride plays the role of Tennessee, the Covenant’s chief pilot.

“Alien: Covenant” also stars Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Demián Bichir, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, Jussie Smollett, Nathaniel Dean, Benjamin Rigby, and Alexander England.

“Alien: Covenant” is both a sequel to “Prometheus” and a prequel to 1979’s “Alien.” As such, it is meant to bridge the gap between the two films. There have even been rumors that Waterston’s character is the mother of Ellen Ripley, the longtime franchise heroine played by Sigourney Weaver.
