‘Logan’ Blu-ray, DVD release will include B&W version

“Logan” director James Mangold has confirmed that the Blu-ray and DVD releases of Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine movie will include a black-and-white version, meaning that all those B&W promotional images were a tease for the bigger picture to come.

In an interview with Deadline, Mangold confirmed that the black-and-white version will be an extra feature included in the home video release.

“I think it even surprised everyone to the degree that there is a kind of a running assumption that black and white is a turnoff for most people,” Mandgold said. “It caused such an extreme reaction, and so much appreciation for these pictures, and then people immediately wondering if the film itself was going to be in black and white, and so we are giving it a whirl, and I think the Blu-ray will come out with a pass on it. I think it will be a very handsome black and white version of the picture.”

Adding a B&W version should come as no surprise to fans. As Comic Book Resources noted, nearly every photo Mangold shared ahead of the film's release were black-and-white, including close-ups of stars Jackman and Patrick Stewart.

Mangold's move follows George Miller's decision to release a black-and-white version of his 2015 film “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

“Logan”, now on its second week in cinemas and accumulating nearly a quarter a billion dollars in box office returns worldwide, is the last film Jackman will be portraying the iconic X-Men character. Set in the year 2029, our hero makes a living as a limo driver to care for an elderly Charles Xavier. Their bleak lifestyle is further put to the test when a young mutant girl shows up and exhibits the same powers that the former Wolverine has. On the run away from a corporation that intends to capture her and kill all those he holds dear, Logan makes a final stand that will determine not only his fate but his legacy as well.
