Charlize Theron gets sexy violent in new ‘Atomic Blonde’ trailer

Universal Pictures has launched a new “Atomic Blonde” trailer, starring Charlize Theron as a top MI6 spy with a knack for hurting people real good. So good, in fact, that even a shoe, in her hands, can be a lethal weapon.

And you can’t have a good spy thriller without some sexy bits, on which the trailer delivers.

Perhaps the best thing about the action scenes in “Atomic Blonde” is that they don’t employ the annoying fast-cut editing technique (sometimes combined with an equally infuriating shaky cam) that makes it impossible to see what the heck is going on. Here, you can actually see every precise moment Theron smashes some poor sod’s face in.

Universal Pictures also released a bunch of new pictures:

“Atomic Blonde,” which is set in 1989, is described as a “a breakneck action-thriller that follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors.”

Theron plays Agent Lorraine Broughton, who is “equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery” – someone who won’t hesitate to use any of her skills to survive and to see her impossible mission through.

Lorraine is sent to Berlin on a mission “to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city.” Along the way, she teams up with station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) who helps her “navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.”

“Atomic Blonde” also stars John Goodman, Sofia Boutella Eddie Marsan, Til Schweiger, and Toby Jones.

It is directed by David Leitch, who co-directed the excellent action film “John Wick,” and will be directing the hotly anticipated “Deadpool 2.” Kurt Johnstad, who co-wrote “300,” is the sole screenwriter for “Atomic Blonde.”

“Atomic Blonde” is based on a 2013 Oni Press series of graphic novels called “The Coldest City,” written by Antony Johnston and illustrated by Sam Hart. Like the movie, “The Coldest City” revolves around Cold War espionage. In 2016, a prequel entitled “The Coldest Winter” was released.
