‘The Fate of the Furious’ the usual adrenaline-filled ride, with a twist
Universal Pictures’ “Fast & Furious” film series hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down and owes much of its success to the chemistry its stars share, the over-the-top car action, and the storytelling.
The eighth film in the series, “The Fate of the Furious,” is no exception to that rule, as Vin Diesel and company return for a new adventure.
The movie takes place after the events of “Furious 7”—which served as a grand send-off for Paul Walker’s character Brian O’ Connor. Walker died in a car accident in 2013.
Directed by “The Italian Job” and “Straight Outta Compton” director F. Gary Gary, “The Fate of the Furious” picks up with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his wife Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) on their honeymoon in Cuba. Unfortunately, things spin out of control when a mysterious woman named Cipher (Charlize Theron) manages to coerce Dom to work for her.
After he betrays the team and leaves his ally Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to take the fall, the rest of Dom’s crew are faced with finding out why their leader went rogue and a sinister plan that could destroy society as we know it.
“The Fate of the Furious” brings that same kind of adrenaline and intensity the previous films are known for and multiplies it with the new twist of Dominic being at odds with his team. The movie is a straight-up popcorn flick that will certainly give action film junkies their money’s worth, and there’s enough surprises in this sequel to give followers of the franchise a lot of satisfaction all the way until the end. Don’t expect the series to slow down anytime soon…This is another chapter that opens new possibilities and roads to explore.
