‘Star Wars Forces of Destiny’ animated shorts to highlight iconic heroes
Disney and Lucasfilm just recently announced a new animated micro-series that aims to celebrate the inspiring tales of the “Star Wars” universe’s most iconic heroes.

With Lucasfilm Animated as the developer, “Star Wars Forces of Destiny” will star the franchise’s major characters in episodes around 2 to 3 minutes long. And from what we’ve seen so far, it appears it will initially focus on beloved heroines such as Princess Leia, Rey, Jyn Erso, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and more. Each story will stay faithful to the series canon, and will specifically reveal how each character’s choices give shape to her destiny.
“Star Wars” actors are reprising their roles for the series, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, and Lupita Nyong’o, who will be narrating as Maz Kanata.
“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity,” stated Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are.”
She added that the series is a “fun new way” for people to experience the “Star Wars” universe.
New toys!
But wait, there’s more! The animated series will be supported by a range of products to be sold worldwide, including books, bedding, apparel, and, most interesting of all, a new toy line from Hasbro. The toys include “Adventure Figures,” which merges the best aspects of actions figures with traditional dolls.
The figures stand 11 inches tall, and will depict heroines like Princess Leia, Rey, Jyn Erso, and Sabine Wren. We can also expect adorable sidekicks such as BB-8 and R2D2, and villains like Kylo Ren.

Additionally, Hasbro will be launching “Star Wars Forces of Destiny” accessories for role play, from an electronic Jedi Power Lightsaber to Rey’s Extendable Staff. These items are part of the Bladebuilders line of “Star Wars” accessory toys.
The Orlando “Star Wars” Celebration this weekend will allow fans to catch a glimpse of “Star Wars Forces of Destiny.” On April 14, they will be able to attend a “Heroines of Star Wars” panel.
“Star Wars Forces of Destiny” starts airing this July on Disney’s YouTube Channel. A two-part TV special, which includes 8 extra shorts, will follow in fall 2017. — BM, GMA News
