Rakenrol! Kikomachine play ‘Sorrowful, Sorrowful Mysteries’ coming to UPLB

A stage play based on Manix Abrera’s popular Kikomachine Komix is heading to the stage next week. Rakenrol!

University of the Philippines Los Baños theater group Tabsing Kolektib adapted the comics' seventh issue into a production bearing the same name—“Sorrowful, Sorrowful Mysteries”—and divided into three one-act plays.

“Langit, Lupa, Impyerno.” The first of the three plays tells the story of Casper, a transwoman ghost and “her journey towards redemption, revenge, and acceptance,” says the production's press release. Is there a place for transgenders in heaven, or is heaven a place on earth?

“Meanwhile sa Alternate Universe.” A barkada’s beach getaway turns into chaos as each member’s secret is revealed. Will they overcome the obstacles, or will they seek an alternate universe?

“It Never Ends.” Melay and her friend are locked in an uncomfortable place for hours. How will they transcend the walls of confinement and discover the mysteries of their childhood that freedom in the outside world had never unfolded?

The plays are written by Timothy Lagundi, Tush Contreras and Francinn Hubag respectively, and directed by Eljay Castro Deldoc. They star Eunize Milante, Ivan Malaluan, Tush Contreras, Drew Espenocilla, Bianca Meer, Christian Cuevas, Nathalie Milante, Renzo Villanueva, Jaira Roxas, Rica Cadiente, Chino Guerrero, Paul Alcala, Jasmin Baniquett, Marc Castillo, and Earl Dulay. — BM, GMA News
