‘Marvel Legacy’ hopes to get comics fans ‘fired up’ again
Amidst all the changes and controversy it has had lately, Marvel Comics is aiming to get its footing back by reigniting “hope, wonder, enjoyment, and fun” with a new initiative.
“Marvel Legacy” will begin later this year with a 50-page one-shot, “Marvel Legacy #1,” that will feature “the Earth-shattering return of a beloved Marvel mainstay” and pave the way for the return of the original numbering system to its famous and classic line-up of titles.

In a report on Newsarama, the House of Ideas announced the project during the “Marvel’s Next Big Thing” panel presentation at this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, where plans to bring back the “classic legacy” of fan-favorite comic book properties such as Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men were discussed.
Calling it "a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics," Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada said the Marvel Legacy initiative is "a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories."
Sounding very similar to DC Entertainment’s “DC Rebirth” initiative, in which the publisher reignited sales by going back to its roots and reintegrating fan favorite characters with history, Marvel Legacy comes after many reboots and diversity-aimed changes to established characters that left many fans with mixed opinions.
“We want fans to get fired up. Simple as that,” said Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso. “Marvel Legacy will decide once and for all if the Marvel Universe is big enough for Miles and Peter, Riri and Tony, Thor and Jane Foster, Laura and, dare I say, Logan? Spoiler alert: It is.”
According to Marvel, the initiative "spreads out across the Marvel Universe, showcasing epic storylines hearkening back to the glory days of Marvel starring Odinson, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Man, the Avengers, America Chavez, Iron Man, Moon Knight, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, the Champions, Wolverine, Ironheart, Hulk, The Punisher and so many more!"
