Cannes gets a taste of ‘The Emoji Movie’, trailer here to prove it's a real film

In case you were still skeptical, a freshly dropped trailer just made "The Emoji Movie" very real. Yes, folks. They've written a story around mostly round, mostly yellow visual characters used in text.

Writers Tony Leondis, Eric Siegel, and Mike White are behind the fantasy world inside your phone, Textopolis, where emojis live and work to make sure that miscommunication doesn't happen.

Based on the trailer, they do this by making faces.

Gene (TJ Miller) is having trouble with this task and this little glitch could cause the phone they live in to be wiped clean.

Determined to become "normal" like the other emojis, he enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). Together, they journey from app to app to find the code that will fix Gene.

Of course, you just know they'll accidentally stumble on a bigger problem and they'll engage in heroics to save Textopolis from it.

TJ Miller parasailed to the 70th Cannes Film Festival to help promote the film as the trailer was released online.
