Blatherin’ blatherskite: Lin-Manuel Miranda joins ‘DuckTales’
Multi-awarded playwright, composer, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda will be lending his voice to Disney’s “DuckTales” animated series, where he’ll be playing the superhero Gizmoduck, ComingSoon.net reports.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is known for creating the critically acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton,” and for his heavy involvement in the composition of the music for Disney’s “Moana.” Miranda also happens to be a “DuckTales” fan, so he should be right at home among the show’s cast.

The fan-favorite character Gizmoduck first appeared in season 2 of the original “DuckTales” series. His real identity is Fenton Crackshell, a bumbling yet well-meaning citizen of Duckburg. When he utters his favorite catchphrase (“blatherin’ blatherskite!”), he unwittingly activates a special robot suit called the Gizmosuit, which transforms him into the Robocop-like hero Gizmoduck.
In the reboot series, the character is reimagined as a Latino, perhaps in honor of Miranda. His true identity is now Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera. He is described as an intelligent young intern working for the mad scientist Gyro Gearloose, who in turn works for Scrooge McDuck.
Regarding Gizmoduck’s new Hispanic heritage, “DuckTales” story editor and co-producer Francisco Angones had the following to say:
“Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, Matt and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt DuckTales’ marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots.”
On casting Miranda as Gizmoduck, executive producer Matt Youngberg stated:
“Lin came to mind instantly for the role of Gizmoduck. His rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell ‘BLATHERING BLATHERSKITE!’ ”
Gizmoduck will be a recurring character in the series. Miranda will star alongside David Tennant (Scrooge McDuck); Tony Anselmo (Donald Duck); Danny Pudi (Huey); Ben Schwartz (Dewey); Bobby Moynihan (Louie); Kate Micucci (Webby Vanderquack); Beck Bennett (Launchpad McQuack); and Toks Olagundoye (Mrs. Beakley).
“DuckTales” has already been picked up for a second season. The first season makes its debut this summer. — AT, GMA News
