4 reasons we’re so excited for the French Film Festival

The French Film Festival in the Philippines is already on its 22nd year. Apart from the usual P100-movies, there’s more to be excited about in this year’s edition of the annual, always-anticipated event. It is happening from June 9 to 19 in Greenbelt 3 cinemas and the BHS Central Square Cinemas.

Below are four things we are super excited about.

1. It is the most awaited event of the PhilFrance: Feel French! In case you don’t know, the French Embassy is celebrating 70 years of French-Philippine diplomatic relations. It is a year-long affair with the French Film Fest as its biggest event.

2. It has an excellent lineup. There are 13 French movies that aims to immerse Filipinos in French values, culture, and language. Among them are Un Chateau en Italie (A Castle in Italy) a 2013 French drama nominated for the Palme d’Or that year, and Les Chavaliers Blancs (The White Knights), which won for Joachim Lafosee the best director award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

3. A day for Filipino films. This year, the French Film Festival will also pay homage to Filipino films that have been selected at the Cannes Film Festivals. Ma’ Rosa (2016), Nakaw (2017), On The Job (2013), and Anino (2000) will all be screened on June 12.

4. A weekend of free outdoor screening. For the first time ever, an outdoor screening will take place during the French Film Festival. It has, in fact, dedicated the entire weekend of June 17 and 18 for the “plein air,” or free public screenings at Circuit Makati.—LA, GMA News
