Caroline Kennedy holds poetry dialogue with St. Scho students

Former United States Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy on Wednesday had a dialogue about poetry with students at the St. Scholastica's College.

Kennedy, along with US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, held a forum with more or less 100 students, including participants of the International Poetry Exchange Program (IPEP).

"I was fortunate to serve as one of Obama's ambassadors for Japan and one of the most rewarding parts of that experience was the chance to work with students from other countries and kind of build friendships for the future. And so when I had the chance to come to the Philippines, I wanted to meet some students here because our countries have been connected for centuries and I think that we hope those bonds of friendship will grow stronger in the future," Kennedy said.

"So poetry turns out to be a wonderful way to bridging our differences, learning about each other, sharing our innermost thoughts and feelings and dreams for the future," she added.

St. Scholastica was chosen to partake in the IPEP, which will allow students from different countries to connect through poetry.

A number of student participants took turns asking Kennedy, who is an author, questions about poetry and writing.

At the forum, Kennedy also presented one of her books, "Poems to Learn by Heart."

The former ambassador is the only surviving member of former US President John F. Kennedy’s immediate family. She is visiting the Philippines for the first time.
