Free to view: 'Our Islands' by artist Martha Atienza in Makati
Expect a flood Art Fair Philippines posts on your social media feeds this week. The highly anticipated event will open to the public on Thursday, March 1 and much like the previous years, will last for four days to close on Sunday March 4.
Adding fuel to the fire are the public art installations around the City of Makati that are already available for viewing for free.

On Tuesday night, the award-winning video installation "Our Islands" by Filipino-Dutch artist Martha Atienza was unveiled at the fountain area of Tower One and Exchange Plaza with none other than the Zobel de Ayalas present.
It is one several public installations of the "10 Days of Art", an initiative of the fair that celebrates art beyond the venue and aims to make art accessible to the bigger public.

Apart from Atienza's art, the "10 Days" initiative also includes Leeroy New’s bamboo and rattan installation called "Barikada" found at the Ayala Center Walkway and Reg Yuson’s "Conditions of Space", a sculpture of mild steel with rust patina found at Greenbelt 5.

"Our Islands" is a single channel HD video featuring "a subaquatic procession of men in bastardized costumes fully submerged, in a trance, pushing themselves slowly against the sea and its shifting currents". It won for Atienza the prestigious Baloise Art Prize of 2017. — LA, GMA News
