‘Mamma Mia!’ The Musical: An ABBA-solutely fun night!
It’s not an exaggeration: There’s no dull moment at the West End Production of the international musical (and silverscreen) hit "Mamma Mia!"
Since opening in Manila on September 29, the cast of "Mamma Mia!" has repeatedly brought the house down and led the audience to a walk – or strut – down disco fever lane, much like in 2012 when it first ran in the city.
Shona White, who plays the strong and independent single mom Donna Sheridan, was a showstopper. With her wide vocal range, she makes the audience want to get up and dance especially during “Super Trooper.”
At the gala night on October 2, she made us feel all sorts of emotions during her solo performance of “The Winner Takes It All”. Without a doubt, she’s the star of the hit show.
Donna and The Dynamos – the fun and laidback Rosie (played by Nicky Swift) and the always captivating Tanya (played by Helen Anker) – showed us how to get down and party, especially during the “Dancing Queen” number at the finale.

Every one in the audience was on their feet, shuffling about and singing along with the trio.
It’s safe to assume that it is simply impossible not to sing along whenever you hear this disco classic, especially when it’s sang by sparkle-clad women.
The natural chemistry between Sky (played by Phillip Ryan) and Sophie (played by Lucy May Barker) was palpable – and not just because they’re a real-life bethroted couple.
Though they do not have a lot of numbers together, the time they shared on stage showed how seamlessly they fall into each others’ path, making each other shine in every scene together.

Barker was a revelation. She captivated the audience from her very first number (“I Have a Dream”) to her wildly spirited dance numbers. And while this writer was expecting a deeper singing voice for Sky, Ryan still delivered a beautiful and energetic performance.
The three dads were also quite a thrill to watch. No-nonsense family man Sam Carmichael (played by Tamlyn Henderson), banker with a secret Harry Bright (played by Daniel Crowder), and intrepid adventure writer Bill Austin (played by Matthew Rutherford) each brought their own kind of excitement to the life of Donna Sheridan and to the show itself.

While brooding Sam and exuberant Harry are indeed fun to watch, this writer insists that the best dad out there is Bill. His dancing alone is enough to make him an instant favorite.
If you’re looking for a fun night out with your partner, group of friends, or if you want to share the glorious music of ABBA with your family (some sensitive references/jokes may be a bit too much for kids 16 or younger), Mamma Mia! would be perfect. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Trust us on this. — LA, GMA News
