Gringo’s sister calls out exclusive club for embarrassing his wife

A sister of Senator Gregorio Honasan has taken to Facebook to call out an exclusive members' club for refusing his wife entry because she was accompanied by a household helper who was wearing sandals.

Alya Honasan said the senator's wife Jane, a five-year-old granddaughter and the helper were supposed to attend the bridal shower of Senator Aquilino Pimentel III's fiance Kathryna Yu.

“My sister-in-law Jane was invited to a bridal shower there today (October 2), and was told by the host that she could bring her grand daughter and yaya, whom she had picked up from [a] school in BGC (Bonifacio Global City)," Alya said in her post.

"She wasn’t allowed in because of the yaya’s sandals. Not chinelas or fit-flops; heeled sandals. The people at the entrance said the rules don’t allow sandals because 'the business people who dine might be offended.' One manager even asked her (Jane) 'ano po ang gagawin niyo dito?',” she added.

Alya said Jane decided to leave and conveyed her regrets to the bride-to-be. She added that Jane didn't introduce herself as a senator's wife.

"But I am pretty pissed that my sister-in-law was embarrassed; my five-year-old grand niece was puzzled that they didn’t make it to the 'party,' and this bastion of hypocrisy and its minions feel they have the right to judge people; equating footwear with income tax return and your value as a human being," Alya said.

"It makes me sick. I really hope you close [shop] soon,” she added.

Sought for comment on the incident, Manila House expressed regret but maintained that it was just enforcing its house rules.

“We regret that we were unable to welcome Mrs. Honasan and her party yesterday.  Like other similar establishments, Manila House has its own house rules," Bambina Olivares, Manila House's Director of Public Relations and Arts as well as Culture and Education Programs, said in a statement.

“We sincerely apologize for any embarrassment this may have caused the parties concerned.  We are reaching out to them so that we many properly explain the situation,” she added. —NB, GMA News
