Lea Salonga will star in Manila run of 'Sweeney Todd'

When it rains, it pours indeed.

Award-winning Broadway actor Lea Salonga will star in the Atlantis Theatrical Manila production of Sweeney Todd the Musical.

She will play the role of Mrs. Lovett, a meat pie shop owner. Jett Pangan, famously the frontman of rock band The Dawn, will play Sweeney Todd.

Atlantis announced the good news on social media on Saturday morning, saying the play will run in October 2019 at The Theater at Solaire. Bobby Garcia will take on directorial duties.

“I cannot tell you how excited I am to be cast in one of my favorite Sondheim musicals. I pleases and tickles me to no end that I’m finally old enough to play Mrs. Lovett,” read a portion of Lea's statement that Playbill released.

On social media, Lea said “to say that I’m excited is an understatement.”
