Weavers from Angeles District Jail helped in making the nat'l costume of this Bb. Pilipinas candidate

This year’s Bb. Pilipinas national costumes is, in one word, stunning.

Apart from fabulous photography and styling, the organization delivered on a brilliant concept, highlighting the country’s rich culture and tradition.

But allow us to zero in on the beautiful white structured ball gown of candidate 26, Emma Mary Tiglao, who hails from Pampanga.

On Facebook, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Angeles District Jail shared that the gown, which was created by Kapampangan designer Rich Sabinian, actually features fabric woven by resident basket weavers of Angeles District Jail Male Dorm.

Speaking to GMA News Online, JO1 Adrian Azarcon shared it took 6 weavers and 3 tailors from the male dorm to finish the beautiful white ball gown in a month’s time.

“End of March po kami nagsimula and talagang buong araw naming siya ginawa, lalo na nung patapos na,” Adrian said, adding he personally watched over the 9 persons deprived of liberty — all still awaiting trial, by the way — from 8am to 8pm.

According to Adrian, even the headdress worn by the pageant candidate holds a special story.

Although the Angeles District Jail didn’t work on the headdress, it is still proudly Kapampangan. “Pinukpuk ang tawag sa kanya, and gawa siya sa Betis, Guagua, Pampanga,” Adrian continues.

The Betis district is best known for making Pinukpok, headdress made with brass metal that adorns the heads of saints.

Amazing, isn't it? The national costume fashion show will be on May 29 at the Araneta Coliseum. — LA, GMA News
