Laga weaving method now a senior HS course in some Kalinga schools
"Laga," the traditional method of weaving by Cordillera natives will now be included in the curriculum of senior high schools in Lubuagan, Kalinga.
The Department of Education said laga will be included in lessons under the home economics subject in public schools, according to a Balitanghali report on Saturday.
Students are required to undergo work immersion program, where they will produce actual products with the assistance of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Kalinga State University.
The program aims to revive the "backstrap weaving technique" which is part of the culture of the people of Lubuagan.
