Manila FAME opens today!

The Philippines’ premier design and lifestyle event, Manila FAME, is opening its doors to the public today.

This year is quite special for Manila FAME as it will be celebrating its 70th anniversary with the theme, “Heritage Reimagined.”

The theme aims to highlight the 'passing on' of the design legacy from long-time FAME exhibitors to the next generation of designers and exporters.

The Manila FAME will feature over 300 home and lifestyle brands, such as Shell Arts, Cyprea International, JB Woodcraft, Acento, Larone Crafts, Beatriz Accessories, and S.C. Vizcarra.

There are four main highlights of the event. First is the Design Commune, which is the flagship show of Manila FAME. Apart from the merchandise program, it also features a curated space under the direction of Vince Uy, with support from seasoned design consultants such as Stanley Ruiz, André Chang, Nix Alañon, Kitty Bunag, and Mia de Lara.

The Artisan’s Village, meanwhile puts the spotlight on distinctive products from Antique and Marawi.

The Fashion E-Tailers showcases emergent online fashion retailers.

And finally, the Eco-Lifestyle Pavilion houses goods inspired by the country’s rich environment as well as a variety of beauty and wellness products.

“In recent years, there has been an outpour of nostalgia and reimagining of iconic and heritage design pieces. It is through this yearning for creative rebirth that we highlight the inherent beauty and distinct creativity of Filipino culture,” says Pauline Suaco-Juan, the Executive Director of the Department of Trade and Industry-Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (DTI-CITEM).

This three-day event is open to the public from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at the World Trade Center. — Angelica Y. Yang/LA, GMA News
