Moms: Keep up with K-Pop!

K-Pop, or Korean Pop music, has taken the world by storm, one catchy beat at a time! Chances are, you have also experienced bobbing your head along to a K-Pop song your kid played, or have been mesmerized by their fashion as you got a glimpse of your child’s mobile screen. With the entertainment, aesthetic, and aspiration it brings, K-Pop is definitely here to stay!

It is no wonder that kids are so into the K-Pop craze. Even celebrities have their own K-Pop idols.

So, Moms, don’t be left out.  Ride on the K-Pop craze so you can get to know your kid’s bias (K-idol, in K-Pop language).  It will be a way for them to feel more connected to you

Show interest

Whatever your child’s passion is, show them that you are genuinely interested in the things they like. If they’re an avid fan of K-Pop, you’ll definitely be hearing songs from their favorite groups to no end!

So listen to all the K-Pop news and trivia they will be talking passionately about and occasionally chime in to show that you are indeed listening. Your kid will be delighted to know that their mom shares their good taste in music.

Get to know their fandoms and biases

You might feel overwhelmed with all the K-Pop groups, and not know where to start. Use your child’s bias as a spring board for your research. Each child who is a stan (stalker + fan) would surely have their own idols and would stand by their fandoms.

Fandom is a term used to describe the fanbase of a certain group. BTS fans are called ARMY, and BLACKPINK fans are called Blinks. Learning these terms will mean a lot to your kid, especially when you have taken the task of knowing their favorite K-Pop group and their songs.

Support them in sharing their talents

If your child is into watching and listening to K-Pop, they have most likely memorized the lyrics and dance steps of their favorite songs. As challenging as it may be, try memorizing the lyrics yourself. If you can’t, just watch them do a selca (selfie in K-Pop language) singing or dancing, the K-Pop way.

Keep encouraging them to share their talents not just at home, but somewhere they can shine! Who knows, they might find themselves in a K-Pop-inspired Pinoy group like our very own, SB19!
