Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson dies at 61
Singer Marie Fredriksson of the Swedish pop duo Roxette has died at the age of 61, her manager confirmed on Tuesday.
Fredriksson, whose vocals graced such '80s pop hits as "Listen To Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love," died on Monday after "a 17-year battle with cancer," according to her management's statement.
Fredriksson was diagnosed with a severe brain tumor in 2002.
Fredriksson formed Roxette with singer and guitarist Per Gessle in 1986 and shot to international fame in 1988 with "The Look." The band continued to tour in the decades that followed.
Gessle also released a statement, saying in part, "Thank you, Marie, thanks for everything. You were an outstanding musician, a master of the voice, an amazing performer. Thanks for painting my black and white songs in the most beautiful colors. You were the most wonderful friend for over 40 years. I’m proud, honored and happy to have been able to share so much of your time, talent, warmth, generosity and sense of humor. All my love goes out to you and your family. Things will never be the same."
