Artist reimagines how the Philippines would look like if we continued to use Baybayin
What would the Philippines look like if we continued to use the Baybayin writing system?
Artist Gian Dominic Hapita reimagined how our streets would look like with Baybayin characters and created numerous 3D model artworks to showcase just how different our surroundings would be.
From street signs to establishment names, Hapita recreated our country into something beautifully unique, as seen on his Facebook post last Saturday.
According to the artist, it was curiosity that drove him to create the images. He wrote, "Sa sobrang curious ko, nagsimula ako ng series ng artworks para ma satisfy ko yung curiosity sa isip ko."
Hapita said that this was just the first part of his series entitled "Paano kung nasa Pilipinas tayo?"
Although the images look realistic, Hapita shared that these were actually 3D models inspired by the streets of Calumba, Laguna.
Habita clarified that although he was a big fan of Baybayin, he wasn't an expert at it so the texts on the signs could possibly have errors. He also clarified that his work was in no way sponsored by the brands featured in his art.
With the amount of attention his artwork has gained, Hapita added, "Nakakatuwa na andami pa ring may interes sa kung anong meron tayo sa roots natin."
