#PINNED: Death Cab for Cutie, Coldplay, John Legend, Bono, and other artists are holding social media concerts

#Pinned makes it easier for the young Filipino adult to discover the latest stories about fashion, food, travel, gadgets, activities, shopping, and all things trending.

All our stories are written by young creatives who made it their life mission to know everything there is to know in the online world, so fellow young adults can make the most of their limited down time every day, every week.

In the time of COVID-19, your favorite artists are using live music streaming on social media to drown out the noise and ease fans’ cabin fever.

While the whole world reels from the restrictions and other preventive measures that almost all governments around the world are putting in place, some of the world’s most famous artists are turning to social media to perform for their quarantined fans.

See below for some of the most well-known artists that decided to make our home quarantines more bearable with music.

Death Cab for Cutie

In case you’ve missed, the band’s Twitter page announced that they would hold live streaming sessions on Facebook at 4:00 PM PST every day for the next few weeks. This would be equivalent to 8:00 AM Manila time. Now, that would be really early for a concert, but, hey, this is Death Cab for Cutie.

You can watch the first streaming session that vocalist Ben Gibbard did this morning here:

Ben sang a couple of Death Cab for Cutie faves such as “A Lack of Colour” and “Northern Lights.” He also delighted his live audience with covers of “We Will Become Silhouettes” (The Postal Service) and “Fake Plastic Trees” (Radiohead).

Coldplay

Frontman Chris Martin explained that he was supposed to be with the rest of the Coldplay crew but since they are stuck in different countries, he would be the only one playing for those watching on Instagram.

Chris serenaded his live audience with Coldplay classics such as “Yellow” and “Viva La Vida”. He also gave a lovely rendition of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.”

John Legend

Following Chris’s lead, John Legend also decided to have a live concert at home with his wife, Chrissy Teigen, because, well, she’s with him in their house.

The singer of the hit-single “All of Me” that became an anthem in the Philippines in 2014, John performed “Conversations in the Dark,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Preach,” among other songs.

Bono

If you remember, U2 had its first Manila concert here in the Philippines last December. This time, U2 frontman Bono took to Instagram to share a new song, one dedicated to anyone “in a tight spot.” Bono especially dedicates the song to the people of Italy who are now facing the largest number of COVID-19 infected patients outside China.

The song, entitled “Let Your Love Be Known,” was only written in an hour, according to Bono. You can catch Bono’s performance here:

Indigo Girls, the folk rock duo that sang Power of Two, is also scheduled to have a live performance followed by a Q&A session on March 19, 2020. Check out their Facebook page for more details.

With almost all major concerts being cancelled, numerous artists are sure to follow this trend. The music from our beloved artists will surely be a welcome boost during this uncertain time.
