Buwan ng Wika has these foreigners trying to speak — and sing — in Filipino
It's still Buwan ng Wika and even foreigners are celebrating our language.
The Philippine Embassy in Germany on Facebook shared a video where two Germans Maik and Sergio gamely sang lines from three Filipino songs after being taught by Filipino artists themselves.
Maik and Sergio learned "Habulan" from Zild of IV of Spades, while Kai Honasan taught them her song "Ngayong Gabi."
Lastly, Armi Millare of Up Dharma Down taught them her song "Sigurado" and confirmed what the two Germans noticed: Filipino songs are mostly about love.

Maraming salamat, Zild ng IV OF SPADES, Kai Honasan, at kay Armi Millare ng UDD! Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy of Switzerland posted a video of Swiss writer and journalist Annette Hug speaking in straight Filipino!
She explains that she studied in the Philippines back in 1992, and that 20 years later in 2012, she would go back and forth from Manila to meet with friends and to research about Rizal's trip to Germany, "kasi 'yun ang paksa ng ika-tatlo kong nobela — 'yung pagsasalin niya ng isang dula ni Friedrich Schiller mula sa German sa Tagalog," she said impressively.
Annette thinks the Filipino language has a strong core.
"Sa palagay ko, matibay ang maiputuran ang wikang Filipino kasi makatanggap nitong mga salitang mula sa buong daigdig, mula sa Sanskrit, Arabic, Tsino, Kastila, Ingles lalo," she said. "Nagiging bahagi sila ng Pilipino at nagiging palaro ang wika."
Maligayang Buwan ng Wika! As we celebrate the Filipino language this month of August, we #MeetTheSwiss writer Annette...

Meanwhile, Filipino immigrant in New Zealand and YouTube vlogger Mang Jose challenged some of his New Zealander friends to speak basic Filipino phrases.
Most of them got "Mabuhay" and "Kamusta Ka" but started grappling with phrases that had more syllables like "Magandang Umaga," "Walang Anuman," and "Paalam Na."
All month long, the Philippines is celebrating Buwan ng Wika. Graphic design platform Canva earlier released Filipino-themed content and design collection to celebrate the occassion.
