‘Ghostlight’: Joseph Morong pays tribute to artists struggling amid pandemic in short film

Joseph Morong has directed a short film as tribute to artists struggling amid the health crisis.

According to the GMA-7 News reporter, “Ghostlight” is an ode to the spirit of the artists fighting through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic is a dark period for the arts, displacing some 10,000 artists and cultural workers in the Philippines according to data from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts,” he wrote on the video’s description on YouTube.

“‘Ghostlight’ dramatizes as well as records the struggle of the artists in these uncertain times,” he added.

The film, which runs for about 5 minutes, shows a lone main character dancing through the darkness to a haunting a cappella music, with only a single source of light shining through.

“In the dance, he powers through the darkness, with face mask on, as a testament to the artist’s fortitude,” wrote Joseph.

“Someday the audience will return but the artist’s task to create never ceases,” he added. – RC, GMA News
