Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ unveils first official teaser

Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of the “West Side Story” has finally been unveiled, with the first teaser trailer.

In the video posted by 20th Century Studios on YouTube Monday, the cast are seen dancing around to “Somewhere” while facing fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.

The movie stars Ansel Elgort (Tony), Rachel Zegler (Maria), Rita Moreno (Valentina), Ariana DeBose (Anita) and David Alvarez (Bernardo), among others.

“West Side Story” is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”

As of writing, the teaser trailer has garnered over 507,000 views. The movie’s release date in the Philippines is yet to be announced. — Franchesca Viernes/LA, GMA News
