Rabiya Mateo reveals borrowing Pia Wurtzbach's earrings as good luck charm
Rabiya Mateo revealed that she has borrowed a pair of earrings from Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach as a good luck charm for the upcoming 69th Miss Universe pageant.
According to a PEP.ph report, Rabiya shared the tidbit during a press conference on Wednesday, saying she borrowed the jewelry after a fortune teller told her that using an item that belonged to a past winner would bring her luck.
"Kasi parang may hula na sabi, 'If you really want to win, dapat manghingi ka ng gamit from the former Miss Universe.' Like kay Miss Pia, kay Catriona [Gray], Gloria [Diaz], or Margie [Moran]."
[There was a reading that said, 'If you really want to win, you should ask for an item from the former Miss Universe.' Like something from Miss Pia, Catriona (Gray), Gloria (Diaz), or Margie (Moran).]
The Miss Universe Philippines said, "Ako talaga, hindi na nahiya. Nag-message ako kay Pia, kay Miss Pia — I mean there's nothing wrong about it, you know. I just want to make sure to grab that chance. At least wala kang pinalagpas na pagkakataon."
[I wasn't embarrassed. I messaged Pia, Miss Pia...I mean there's nothing wrong about it, you know. I just want to make sure to grab that chance. At least I didn't let any chance go by.]
The Ilongga beauty queen said that Pia was so kind to her when she reached out. Later on, Pia lent Rabiya the pair of earrings she used during her time in Miss Universe.
"So parang 'yun 'yung agimat na dala-dala ko ngayon (It's like the charm I brought with me)," Rabiya said.
Aside from giving her earrings, Pia also shared some advice for Rabiya.
"She told me not to open my social media anymore. Just post something and then close it right away. Because you don't want to disturb your inner peace," Rabiya said.
Rabiya has yet to reveal when she plans to wear Pia's earrings.
