Filipino short 'Harana' wins US Narrative Short Competition Prize at Sarasota Film Festival


Filipino short film "Harana" just won the US Narrative Short Competition Prize at the Sarasota Film Festival.

Director Marie Jamora shared the news on her Instagram account on Wednesday, writing, "AMAZING NEWS! #HaranaFilm has just won the US Narrative Short Competition Prize at the Sarasota Film Festival!!!" 

"We thank Rodney Piatt and the Sarasota programmers and jurors for this great honor," she added. 

 

 

The win is a comes at the heels of recent recognitions at the Micheaux Film Festival, where "Harana" took home the award for Outstanding Music and  Filipina actress Frencheska Farr was hailed the Outstanding Dramatic Actress for her performance in the Marie Jamora movie. 

"Harana" tells the story of a homesick Las Vegas lounge singer trying to connect with her daughter back in the Philippines. It aims to shed light on overseas Filipino workers in the US.
