Araneta shares throwback photo of Gloria Diaz's homecoming parade in 1969

Gloria Diaz made history when she became the first Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe in 1969.

And true to tradition, the beauty queen had her own homecoming parade in Araneta, Cubao after winning the crown.

The official Instagram account of Araneta City dug up a black and white photo of the historic moment, where Gloria could be seen waving at the crowd that swarmed her vehicle.

She proudly wore her crown and sash that bore the title "Miss Universe."

Back in March, Miss Universe organization also shared throwback clips of the highlights of Gloria's moments at the Miss Universe 1969.

After Gloria, three more Filipinas have been crowned Miss Universe: Margarita Moran in 1973, Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, and Catriona Gray in 2018. —JCB, GMA News
