Photographer recreates famous artworks with PWD models, challenges beauty standards

A photographer is seeking to challenge beauty standards by recreating famous artworks with persons with disabilities (PWDs) as models.

According to Oscar Oida’s “State of the Nation” report, Ayla Reyes depicted Renaissance artworks in a photoshoot for her thesis at University of Santo Tomas.

Among the artworks they emulated were the Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Star, The Thinker, and Venus de Milo, among other famous pieces.

“Beauty shouldn’t have a standard and there should be no blueprint for it,” said Reyes.

In her photoshoot, she said she “made sure to include bits of their personalities, of their stories into the recreation of the classic art pieces to make it their own.” – RC, GMA News
